I had the pleasure to photograph the Walley Gutshall Building this building is truly a historical gem. This building is a contributing property in Pueblo’s Union Avenue Historic Commercial District. I have always been passionate about architecture photography, especially when it comes to documenting historical architecture.

A fun history nugget, based on the historical plaque in front of the building; the actual date of construction is unknown. In 1880 Stephen Walley purchased this property from Samuel P. Gutshall for $4,500. Stephen and Louisa Walley sold the property to Otto, Hugo and Max Buerger in 1886. The Wally/Guthall Building once housed a cigar factory and employed 32 Pueblo men. By 1898 there were 14 cigar factories in Pueblo Colorado.

Realtor J.R. Chavez purchased the 1880 Wally Guthall Building at 323 S. Union Ave. in 2021. The Walley Gutshall Building is now named The Raymond Hotel and Stay. J.R. and his fiancé Vanessa Madrid have done a wonderful job with restoring the building, especially the original wooden staircase.

Below are a few photos of this beautiful building.
